In Colorado a baker has been fined and ordered to undergo “sensitivity training” because he declined to produce cakes for homosexual weddings. In addition, he has been ordered to produce cakes for such weddings. To put this in plain, easy to understand terms, a court has:
Punished an individual for their religious beliefs.
Ordered a private business to produce a product they don’t want to produce.
Ordered the owner and employees to be “reeducated” into a government-approved way of thinking.
Refusal to comply will be met with fines and imprisonment. This is exactly the kind of thing that used to happen in the old Soviet Union.
And worse, nobody much seems to find it abhorrent any more. Back when we lived in a free country the sheriff would refuse to enforce such an order. The governor would order an investigation. The judge would be in danger of impeachment. Instead, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission ruled the baker was the one in violation. Apparently, you only have civil rights if you’re politically correct.
What part of the constitution enables the government to selectively repress particular religious beliefs and order private business to produce things for third parties against their will? Does anybody ask these kinds of questions anymore? Or, to paraphrase Senator Clinton, “what difference at this point does it make?”
The baker now stands in danger of imprisonment if he continues to refuse to comply. Will he be sent to a reeducation camp? Probably not. They’ll just use a regular prison. They won’t need a dedicated camp for that purpose unless too many of the rest of us don’t get the message: comply or be destroyed.
This is not an isolated instance. We’ve already experienced the requirement to purchase health insurance or pay a fine. (Which means jail time if you refuse to pay.) The Supreme Court says that’s “constitutional,” and that the EPC can outlaw carbon dioxide in order to control all energy use and even seize property if water is nearby (because a drainage ditch is a “wetlands.”) So the government can now control any business and take property virtually at will.
They control what churches do, outlawing feeding the homeless and home Bible studies. People have been arrested at school board meetings for going over a two-minute speaking time limit (and incidentally opposing what the powers-that-be want to do.)
And outside of talk radio and the tea party there’s no mention of these incidents. The majority of people seem to think this sort of thing is fine if It’s politically correct and for the “common good.” After all, if most people are in favor of it, it’s democracy, right?
No, it’s mob-ocracy. The old constitution we used to have provided guarantees to unpopular minorities of rights the majority couldn’t trample upon. It was why Jim Crow laws, passed by the white majority in the South, we’re thrown down. But that’s all gone now. If the wolves outnumber the sheep all the sheep can do is hope that the subject of lunch doesn’t come up for a vote.
They’ve gone from the petty harassments like disallowing smoking on your own property, to seizing property, and even enslaving unpopular minorities. For isn’t it involuntary servitude to be forced to make cakes?
The gloves are off and the naked fist of Political Correctness is out in the open.
First they came for the

Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade
Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and
I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
